Southern California Giant Pumpkin Growers Forum
The Southern California Giant Pumpkin Growers will present the club’s first annual grower’s forum at Irvine Park Railroad on Saturday, May 6th. Members will provide an overview of how to grow a giant pumpkin from seed to harvest, including starting the seeds, plant maintenance, fertilizing and getting your giant pumpkin to the September weigh-off at Irvine Park Railroad. Participants at this year’s Great Pumpkin Weigh-off will have a chance to win big . . . last year, over $5,000 in cash prizes were awarded!

Chris Dunn, last year’s Great Pumpkin Weigh-off winner with his pumpkin weighing in at 1,452 pounds, will give a talk on how to grow giant tomatoes. As the current state record holder with his 5 lbs. 11 oz. giant tomato, you’ll want to hear his secrets on competitive gardening and how to grow giant tomatoes and pumpkins.
Free giant pumpkin seedlings will be given to the first 30 families to sign in on the day of the event. We will also have some door prizes including fertilizer and valuable seeds!
The Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off
Join us on Saturday, September 23rd to see if pumpkin growers have what it takes to win a prize for growing the biggest pumpkin. Cash prizes will be awarded.
On this day only, we’ll have a live band and a lot of giant pumpkins. All Pumpkin Patch activities will be open and can be enjoyed by all visitors.

- The top 5 pumpkins must remain at Irvine Park Railroad through Monday, September 25th to be part of a special display. At the conclusion of the event, growers may collect their pumpkins and seeds.
- Pumpkins must be grown, cared for, and entered by the weigh-off contestant.
- Each contestant is limited to one entry.
- In the event of a tie, prize money will be distributed equally among the tied parties.
- Decisions of the judges are final in all cases.
Delivery of Entries
Growers are responsible for bringing their entries to the weigh-off by 8:00 am. Weigh-off staff will move pumpkins by forklift. All entries will be handled with care.
Pre-registration is due by September 17th. Please pre-register so we have an accurate count of entries. Your cooperation will help us run a well-organized event.
